Abstract

Concerning fracture fixation, plain radiographs, computed tomography, and image intensifier without projection errors play a very important role in the accurate evaluation of fracture characteristics and technical errors. With the recent development of imaging technology, threedimensional (3D) rendering software capable of virtual fixation at actual size has been developed, and preliminary studies of relevant anatomy have been reported. 3D rendering software enables free magnification and rotation, projection of internal structures, and virtual fixation at the intentional site, providing new anatomical features, surgical landmarks, and osseous corridors for internal fixation. Taking these advantages into account, orthopedic surgeons will use it as another tool in the diagnosis and surgical treatment, which will be of practical help. This review outlines the clinical research 3D rendering software with virtual fixation, introduces research experiences on fracture fixation, and provides the clinical implications.
